The WD202 offers a wide array of inputs, USB (up to 16bit/48kHz), S/PDIF coaxial and optical (up to 24bit/192kHz), and AES (up to 24bit/192kHz), making connecting your transport, or computer a breeze. No special drivers are needed for your computer, once the USB cable is connected, your computers' operating system device will take care of everything, and the WD202 will simply show up in your control panel, all you have to do is select it as the "sound output device", and you are rolling!
The DAC features both RCA and XLR outs, which can be controlled via the volume up/down buttons on the remote, or on the front of the unit itself, so no external preamplifier is needed. However, if one does wish to utilize their preamp, the outputs can be locked at full output.
In addtion to being a great DAC and preamp, the WD202 also boasts a very fine integrated headphone amplifier. Well thought out design mutes the RCA and XLR outputs when headphones are plugged in, and allows the remote control (or the up/down buttons on the unit) to control the volume to the headphones. Plug in your favorite cans, sit back, and relax!
